The 25th Annual PEI Bluegrass and Old Time Music Festival will be held July 2, 3 and 4, 2010 at the Festival Grounds in Rollo Bay. With many US, Eastern Canadian and Island bands putting out over 30 hours of great music on our main stage, The Buzz Music Workshops where artists share their skills with budding musicians, Bluegrass songwriter's circle, the ever popular Open Mic on Wednesday and Thursday night preceding the main stage events, new talent showcases, children's program, and more concessions this year's event promises to be the biggest and brightest Festival yet.

Over 500 recreational vehicles are expected to attend from all over Eastern Canada and the US to hear great bands and enjoy our genuine island hospitality.

This year's main stage event will feature special guests Ralph Stanley II from Virginia, Tennessee's Barry Scott & Second Wind, and one of the finest up and coming bands in bluegrass music, Brand New Strings.

A native Virginian from Coburn, Ralph II is the son of Ralph and Jimmi Stanley. Ralph II is an accomplished songwriter, having penned many of the songs that are included on his albums. In August 2000, Ralph II was married to Kristi Ison of Pikeville, Kentucky. The couple currently resides in Coburn, Virginia with their daughter Taylor Brooke and son Ralph Edmond Stanley III. As one might expect for the son of a renowned banjo player, the first instrument Ralph II ever held was a banjo. At the ripe old age of three, Ralph, (or simply Two as he is called by his fellow bandmates in the Clinch Mountain Boys), had his first lesson from the elder Stanley, learning a simple finger roll. It turned out, however, that he would not be following in his father's footsteps when it came to choice of instrument. He soon fell under the spell of the undisputed king of boyhood musical desires, the guitar. He spotted one under his sister's bed, and, according to Ralph, "I wanted to play that. When I was five years old, I started with the guitar, and I've been with the guitar ever since." But despite his interest in the guitar, and the fact that he was occasionally travelling with the Clinch Mountain Boys on the road, he had not yet developed an ambition to play professionally. It took until age 12, and an old 1970's video of the late Keith Whitley during his tenure as lead singer for the Clinch Mountain Boys, to inspire him to become a professional musician. After seeing Whitley he was hooked and spent hours in the basement honing his skills, and weathering the comparisons to his late Uncle Carter. His persistence paid off, and he took the stage as lead singer with Ralph Sr. and the Clinch Mountain Boys in June of 1995. Since then, he has earned the respect of Stanley fans everywhere, and has garnered praise as a strong new artist in his own right.

Barry Scott was born in 1967 in Ellijay, Georgia. Barry grew up in a very musical family. His dad played in several local country bands that opened for Grand Ole Opry stars Porter Wagoner and Buck Owens. He started singing gospel music when he and Barry's mother, Audrey, met. When Barry's sister Brenda was old enough, she played piano, Dad guitar and Dad's sister Catherine Crump sang harmony with them forming the Scott Family band. Barry started making the transition from traditional Southern Gospel to Bluegrass when he joined fellow Gilmer County native, Barry Abernathy in the gospel Bluegrass band he founded, Silvercreek. Barry Abernathy, James Jones and Barry sang together about three years, until Barry Abernathy left to join IIlyrd Tyme Out. After Silvercreek disbanded, Barry rejoined The Perry's to sing lead and play bass.

Barry was with The Perry's about three and half years. In the meantime, Barry Abernathy had joined Doyle Lawson and Quicksilver. In November 1996, Barry joined Doyle Lawson and Quicksilver to sing lead and play guitar. After nine years with the band, he felt the Lord was leading me in a new direction in my musical career. On December 31, 2005 I left DL&Q. Barry now have his own band, Barry Scott and Second Wind.

Some of East Tennessee’s favorite bluegrass musicians came together to form BRAND NEW STRINGS just over a year ago, and they have come a long way in a very short amount of time! BRAND NEW STRINGS is comprised of: Randall Massengill, Tim Tipton, Mike Ramsey, Stuart Wyrick and Matt Leadbetter. RURAL RHYTHM RECORDS just released Brand New Strings' new album, "NO STRINGS ATTACHED." The CD was recorded in Cumberland Gap,TN with studio owner and Producer, Steve Gulley. The new single, "Merry Go Round," is already receiving airplay along with other favorite tracks, "Law of the Land," "The First Date," and so many more.

RANDALL MASSENGILL Randall plays lead guitar and sings lead and harmony vocals for BNS. At the age of 12, his dad taught him his first 3 chords on the guitar, and Randall hasn't looked back since. He attributes his interest in Bluegrass music to groups such as Doyle Lawson and Quicksilver, Boone Creek, Lonesome River Band & The Seldom Scene. Randall was a member of both One Way Track and New Road , two very talented groups based out of East Tennessee . He does some writing himself, and many of his great gospel songs can be found on the New Road recordings. Randall currently makes his home in Knoxville, TN.

MIKE RAMSEY Mike Ramsey play mandolin and sings lead and harmony vocals with BNS. He toured more than 14 years with the gospel bluegrass band, New Road, along with fellow band-mate Stuart Wyrick. Mike has live his life in the mountains of East TN. He has his wife Jodee live on the family farm, most of which has never been owned by anyone outside of the Ramsey family. When Mike is not touring with BNS, he makes a living doing electric line work for the local electric Co-Op. Mike says, "I love the Lord and His word, you can’t separate them, I also dearly love my good mule John, and my beautiful wife, Jodee, maybe my wife should have been before my mule ,and I love music; gospel, old time and yes, bluegrass."

TIM TIPTON Tim plays the acoustic bass for BNS. He credits his Grandfather as being his earliest musical influence as he was the first person to introduce Tim to the wonderful sounds of Bluegrass music. Tim was a founding and key member of the band Blue Moon Rising and performed with tha group many years. Tim is heavily influenced by the music of Bill Monroe, Lou Reid, New Grass Revival, Ricky Skaggs, and Del McCoury. In his spare time, he loves the sport of coon hunting. He currently makes his home in Madisonville , Tennessee with his wife Penny and two daughters.

STUART WYRICK Stuart has been playing Bluegrass and Bluegrass Gospel music since the age of 8 and has since performed at major Bluegrass Festivals and Gospel Concerts throughout his musical career. He performed with the Better Way Quartet for 10 years, then toured with the respected New Road band from 2005 to early 2008.  He his now focused on his career with Brand New Strings and looks forward to what this year will hold.  His musical influences have been his Dad (Theodore Wyrick), Earl Scruggs, J.D. Crowe, Sonny Osborne, Jimmy Millsapps, and many more.  Stuart enjoys going to Church and raising Registered Black Angus Cattle.

MATT LEADBETTER Resophonic guitarist, Matt Leadbetter, is one of the top musicians on the circuit today. He began playing music at the age of 8 and a self taught player. He learned much of his playing from long hours of listening and studying other resonator guitarist and lap steel players—both on record and in person. Traveling the road with his father Phil Leadbetter, Matt had the opportunity to be around some of the top musicians in the world. He made many friends while hanging backstage at many of these events and was also able to take advantage of many offers from groups who asked him to join them on stage. Since early 2004,Matt has been traveling all over the world. He landed his first gig when he became a member of the band Blue Moon Rising on resonator guitar and harmony vocals. Later that year, he joined Bell Buckle Recording artist Valerie Smith & Liberty Pike. In spring 2006, Matt started been touring with award winning Lonesome River Band, where he spent close to two years traveling around the country. You can hear a lot of Matt's resonator guitar work on the CD "The Road With No End," which was on the charts for several months for the CD and the song "Lonesome Won't Get the Best of Me." Matt started off the year where in 2008 he joined multiple Grammy award winning Marty Raybon and Full Circle. Here Matt expanded his reso playing in both bluegrass and country circuits. Matt is featured on the upcoming CD "This, That and the Other." As 2009 comes around, Matt joins Brand News Strings, will continue his session work and perform many resonator workshops to promote his Matt Leadbetter's Signature Series resos. Be sure to keep up with his schedule to catch his resophonic guitar and lap steel work at www.mattleadbetter.com
